Thank you, you, you, hello everybody, and welcome back to the daily practice with me, benita. So today is a little bit of a special, shorter episode because I've been on the road and I haven't had that much time to dedicate to this. But I just wanted to just do a quick check in and I have started also to be more and more active on Twitter. That is a platform where I really hope to share some insights and practices and just food for thought to accompany this podcast and also my youtube channel. So welcome to all new listeners and thank you those who are coming back and, yeah, I really hope that you find value and joy and meaning in in connecting through these different platforms. So, just to reiterate, I'm going to be posting a podcast episode every Monday morning, 10 am Mountain Time, and there will also be a yoga or meditation or some kind of practice video every Friday at 7 am and I coming more and more engaged also with my small but growing audience on X. This is actually a thread I posted on X recently and it is about something that my friend's mom used to say when I was younger and I used to think that she was crazy for saying this, and I guess it can still somehow ruffle some feathers with people, because maybe it's not who is so, I don't know politically correct or and especially for me, coming from academic background and coming from a very left-leaning country and in general very yeah, I would say in just general socialist environment. But there's one thing that my friend's mom said it's starting to become more and more true, as I, you know that for a lot of people that sounds, let's say, outrageous or shallow or whatever else, but actually a woman or a person in general, I don't know maybe there is something as too rich, when we look at the division older and wiser, that actually material wealth, of course, is not the end all be all of anything, but having access to the highest quality material, housing, nourishment, having your free time and having that extra bandwidth that comes from not worrying about money, not worrying about. You know where your next meal is going to come from or how you're going to make rent that month or whatever else you know. So, actually, material wealth and having a richness not just of stuff or money, but really like true wealth, can also be like okay, I have my own fruit orchard, I have my time, I have my time, I have, you know, my health and I have enough free time to dedicate to taking care of my fitness and all that and being able to provide the best possible nourishment for your family and yourself. That's not something we need to be ashamed of or that we need to kind of deny ourselves so truly.

Speaker 1:

In some ways, you can never be too rich and however you measure that, it's not necessarily numbers in your bank account though those numbers do help but having a wonderful, beautiful place that you call home, having beautiful items that serve you. You know that everything in your life is a delight and it sparks joy and you have this deep satisfaction of, not because you need to hoard or because you need to show off or have material stuff to display status or whatever, but it's just like hey, this car that I'm driving is actually really nice and my everyday experience is elevated because I have access to this reliable, luxurious or whatever else. You know, whatever else is valuable for you transportation or housing, or you know, having, you know, like a herb garden and you have a wealth of flavors and healing that comes to you from having access to that. Maybe it's you have a small farm, maybe. Maybe you're rich in goats, or you're rich in chickens and you have an abundance of eggs that you can enjoy and nourish your body with and even give to your neighbors or give to your family. You know those things are necessary and they are nothing to be ashamed of. You don't need to deny yourself being rich. It's your birthright to thrive, to have a money story that serves you and the people around you. You don't need to live in lack. You don't need to be desperate or stressed or working your ass off. You are allowed to receive all the blessings that are here for you.

Speaker 1:

Okay, so how about ever being too skinny over? Food is healthy. I don't think that starving yourself is a positive thing, but actually being, you know, within a normal range, not carrying excess weight, is so valuable and is something, something to thrive towards. Okay, this doesn't mean doing some crazy fat diet or you know, restricting food groups or thinking these foods are good, these foods are bad and I shouldn't. No, it's about honoring and really cultivating a beautiful and healthy relationship with food and knowing that excess eating is actually depleting your vital energy and that actually nourishing yourself with appropriate food at the appropriate times and and maybe you do benefit from doing a fast every now and then or at a certain time of month, doing a longer fast, not just for being thin, but actually as a spiritual practice refraining from food, refraining from physical activity, food, just so that you can focus more on spiritual nourishment through breath, through stillness, through meditation, through sunshine. All those things are there and they bring you a deeper and more abundant energy source than a side of fries ever could. So it's so valuable to actually honor your body by allowing yourself to take a break from eating every now and then, not just to be thin.

Speaker 1:

Although having a lower calorie intake overall is linked to longevity a lot of like health benefits, cellular autophagies, where you actually your cells clean themselves there are so many more benefits of actually taking some time off burdening your digestive system with and less meals and with snacks and less this and that, and having a light, strong, beautiful and sexy body is just a wonderful byproduct. So then, of course, there's also mental clarity, and this is like sometimes it's hard to accept. But even in this era of body positivity or maybe we're kind of with ozempic or whatever those other things we are, maybe we're kind of with ozempic or whatever those other things we are in some ways that's starting to be a bygone era where all people who were carrying this excess weight are using a pharmaceutical substance to, you know, actually get rid of the weight that has been weighing on them emotionally and physically. So okay, point being, I do not advocate for ozempic or any other miracle cure that probably has so many more side effects, but actually, like I said, cultivating a healthy relationship with food, nourishing your body in the ways that are appropriate and, of course, also honoring your cycles, honoring pregnancy, honoring fertility, honoring breastfeeding, Because, of course, as a woman, those are the times that, yeah, like you need more and it's almost not healthy to not gain weight you know, extra weight during pregnancy and but there's no reason to say that, okay, I had a baby, so I'm just gonna let my body go. No, actually, like, your body wants to be healthy, light and strong so that you can care for your children in the best possible way. So, of course, restricting calories might interfere with your fertility.

Speaker 1:

So, if you're trying to conceive, don't do crazy fast or don't go into any kind of starvation mode. Instead, really work on actually optimizing your metabolism and make your body better at using energy, and that way you'll just naturally be more lean, light and have more clarity and pep in your step. And that's the point. And, of course, like I said during pregnancy, nourish your body, nourish the baby, feed the baby. Eat what you crave, because that's what the baby needs, even though it's stuff that you might not. Or, yeah, as you're nursing, of course it's important to eat enough and not worry about the number on the scale, but it is true and it's that at a certain point your body wants to be back at its ideal weight, and for a lot of people that's leaner than you think. And then you will also notice that people will treat you different. You will be awarded more respect and treated with more care, because you are showing that you actually also care for yourself and respect yourself and not be carrying around too much toxic waste, which a lot of toxins are stored in our fats.

Okay, and then the fast one, last one, which is uh, can. So you are a light being and you absorb light, you absorb solar energy. So even when us who are born with light skin, blue eyes, we have the ability capacity. Everybody does absorb more sunlight with the production of melanin in our skin. So even children who are born light-skinned can thrive in tropical climates where there's an abundance of sunlight, and they don't need to be flattered in toxic sludge like sunscreen.

Speaker 1:

So actually, my daughter has grown up in, uh, in the tropics, and I have never, ever, ever, ever put any kind of sunscreen on her and she does not burn, she gets a beautiful tan and her hair goes beautifully blonde, and that's it because her body knows how to deal with the sun, because she also does not wear sunglasses or she doesn't hide from the sun. I don't let her, you know, if she, if she hasn't been exposed to sun for a while, I wouldn't let her be in the sun for several hours in the middle of the day, but generally, if, um, you know, we've been outdoors a lot and she actually has the ability to create a tan, and even several hours at the beach won't burn her skin, and this is something that there's a lot of unlearning to do, because we've been sold by big sunscreen producers that we need this, we need that, and, of course, there's a difference, if you like. For instance, I like to go surfing, so if I go surfing, I might put some sunscreen on my face or certain parts of the face, because when you have the actual sunlight plus, uh, the light reflecting from the sea, yeah. So yeah, basically wear sunscreen, but do a use one that's like not poison, and just use it in situations where you really need. So actually best sun protection. If you do need to like be in the sun for hours and hours and hours and your body or your skin is not used to it, um, wear a hat, wear a light shirt or pants, you know, instead of like covering yourself in poison, like the best way to do, you know, is to get a natural tan, is to actually also take certain supplements, for instance, foods high in chlorophyll. Helps your body absorb light more and become more light absorbent, and you can actually directly get energy from the sun. I also know that Jamaica or hibiscus tea is a great way to set yourself up for success when you're tanning naturally without a sunscreen. So some of the benefits actually from developing a healthy tan include, like you obviously get vitamin D from the sun, you get more cellular energy. Obviously get vitamin d from the sun, you get more cellular energy. You have boost your metabolism, which helps with being thin, right, you have a better mood.

Sun is the life giver and it wants to give you joy, happiness and the best life possible. That's what it's here to do to make life possible on this earth. So really, I urge you to remember that the sunlight is the original nourishment that makes life possible. It's not your enemy and you do not need to fear it. Need to hear it. So that's it.
